Ama and Haenyeo

For hundreds of years female divers, known in Korea as haenyeo and in Japan as ama have made their living harvesting the seas for shellfish, octopi and other forms of seafood. Because of the dangers and hardships associated with this line of work, the practice is slowly dying out, with many current divers aged well into their 60's and 70's.
